is a flat bottom boat more stable?
I want to buy a 12 or 14 ft. aluminum open fishing boat. This is for use in saltwater off the coast of B.C. nothing too far from shore. I am looking at Lund boats second hand.I see some are flat bottom. Is this much more stable? Also is the 14 ft. much more stable than the 12? There would be 2 of us at about 350 lbs total body wt. We would like to drag it to the water as opposed to boat launching. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
The boat(s) you describe don”t match up with your desired requirements very well. I think you would be better served with a Carolina Skiff or a Cape Dory. These are “beach-able” and relatively safe for fishing. In most cases they can be rowed. They are a bit heavy to get to the waters edge, but once there it’s easy to get them through the surf. They would be several feet longer than the 12-14 ft. you are thinking about, but here they are tried and true fishing boats.
